Phas Gaye Re Obama
A subtle dark comedy on the Corporate-greed-triggered-RECESSION & its far reaching repercussions even in a non-descript small town in India. A satire on many facets of the contemporary society & world : Politician-Bureaucrat-Criminal Nexus, honesty n hierarchy in criminal world, larger-than-life NRIs, America as the ultimate dream of Indians. Its not a laugh riot, but nonetheless it has the potential to bring a smile on the face of even depressed souls.

Stranger Than Fiction
The movie is a stunning showcase of the tortuous struggle of human mind against determinism and the eventual victory of free will.
The movie at first appears too simplistic to be anything but a dumbed-down depiction of a person hearing a voice in his head narrating his thoughts. But, a grey-cells-induced-epiphany later, one realises that the movie is deeply metaphorical and has a profound message which has been propounded from the times of ancient vedas to 21st century new age physicist-philosophers : YOU CREATE YOUR OWN FUTURE.

Hereafter
A portrayal of 'dark' death in 'white' light. A rare movie about 3 people intimately connected to death-experiences in their own ways, yet never assigning the colour black to death.
2 of the 3 people discover each other as soulmates, after traversing through the mish mash of other relationships. The third is able to move beyond a most terrible tragedy, probably as a by-product of the above sacred fusion of soulmates. In the language of physics, it seems white light (goodies) can sometimes be radiated from black holes (death) !

Seven Pounds
This movie, quite ironically though, suggests that there is a meticulous design even in the way brilliance chooses to extinguish itself. The movie forcefully brings out a case in which a brilliant MIT graduate meticulously plans a suicide followed by donation of his organs to the last detail.
It depicts a rarest of the rare trait seen amongst people who either have strong guilt or have no will to live in them. Generally, such people take to suicidal tendencies coupled with depression. Here in this case, rather than getting pushed into depression, he remains active and even takes great pain to identify potential beneficiaries and cross checks if they really are 'good human beings'. At times I wish a person of such brilliance and superb control over emotions chose to live. The world would have been a better place !

Perfume : The Story of a Murderer
It brings to the fore another possible facet of human ingenuity (as far as olfactory senses are concerned). Shows how far human genius can take him, even towards impropriety. The mind of a genius and the way it sees and perceives the world is completely different. May be even geniuses need mentors !
The dark side of human genius (mediocrity also) blends imperceptibly into the dark and cruel times of 18th century Europe. After seeing this movie, 21st century appears heavenly !
